The pursuit of equity has morphed from equality of opportunity to equality of outcome for whatever groups chosen. In this article, the author deals with taking merit out of the selection for elite public high schools in New York because the proportion of black and Latino students is lower than their proportion of total students. He argues that this will have a negative effect on black kids. I would add it will also result in a worsening of race relations and a lot of bitterness.
