Many people wonder how close we are to completely destroying our patrimony and beginning the process of sliding into our national old age and decline. Mr. Hansen articulates this concern.
Harvey’s Introduction
This is one of the best speeches on what America means and we are an exceptional country. It was given by Rabbi Jonathon Sacks, chief Rabbi of the U.K. several years ago. You can read the speech and be in awe of such an intellect. You can also listen to it, including his introduction by Arthur Brooks, who was then president of American Enterprise Institute. Trump established a Commission to examine the principles underlying our nation’s founding and the reflection of those principles in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The Commission was established to refute many of the claims about the structural evil of our founding and the lies promulgated by the NY Times 1620 project. One of the authors wrote an explanation of the Commission’s work. Of course Biden took the report down from the Government’s website. At the end of the article is a link to the actual commission report.

Every presidential election year there are advocates pushing for eliminating the electoral college. Most of them are Democrats who think their control of large cities would guarantee Democrat winners or people ignorant about the founders’ reasoning behind the electoral college and like the apparent fairness of one person, one vote. The rest of us have to be more educated about the pros and cons before we toss out what some very smart guys decided and has served us well for a couple of hundred years.

This is an interesting, somewhat wonky article that appeared in National Review on why most criticisms of originalists in constitutional law seem not to understand what originalists believe. Others make arguments that ignore the clear reasoning of originalists. The article was written in response to the silly arguments against Amy Comey Barrett this week. I found the essay interesting and sharpened my own understanding of the issue.

Eberstadt is an absolutely brilliant scholar, whose opinions are founded in deep analysis and understanding. This is a written version of the speech he gave at the Annual Dinner at American Enterprise Institute, honoring the late Irving Kristol. This is well worth reading and then reading again. It is a hopeful message.

This is a well written essay on the decline in important institutions that have defined and maintained our culture. He illustrates the decline across a wide range of institutions, which highlight the breadth and extent of this decline. I share his concern and that is why I am so adamant about the issues related to cancel culture.
